Hypnotherapy and EMDR

Salisbury and Cwmbran

Hypnotherapy and EMDR are very effective therapies for the rapid relief of anxiety and trauma.  As a very experienced hypnotherapist I use both to effect permanent change.

Do you need help with anxiety-based conditions such as phobias, stress and trauma (PTSD)?  Using Hypnotherapy and EMDR, these problems are quickly and effectively turned around, bringing rapid, positive change.  As a psychologist and hypnotherapist, I have practised Hypnotherapy and EMDR for more than 14 years, treating a wide range of conditions, including patients seeking help with smoking cessation, weight loss, sleep problems, attentional deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and many other diverse conditions.  Hypnotherapy and EMDR are two psychodynamic therapies that bring about rapid change which is long-lasting.  Using these therapies I was one of the first hypnotherapists in the UK to achieve a new national standard of excellence awarded by the Complementary & National Healthcare Council.  I have had many successful outcomes and work from my friendly and welcoming practices in Salisbury, Wiltshire and Cwmbran in Monmouthshire, with many patients travelling substantial distances for treatment.

Imagine not being anxious or stressed and being able to plan your life, visualising yourself as you want to be, and achieving your goals.  All this and more is possible after a small number of Hypnotherapy or EMDR sessions with me. I am particularly interested in how psychological effects can limit people reaching their full potential.  The brain can make the pictures you hold real, and negative thoughts and actions will result in negative outcomes.  So it is good to hold positive pictures in the brain as the brain will make these images real.  In fact scientific research has shown that positive thinking can add as much as ten years to a person’s life expectancy.  Think what this could mean for you!!

I am particularly interested in how psychological trauma and past experiences can limit individuals from achieving their full potential, affecting their quality of life. Through my wide experience of anxiety states and negative thinking I see the detrimental effect that this exerts on individuals and how limiting this can be.  I am dedicated to alleviating such conditions in any area and believe that everyone has the right to fulfil themselves in life.  This is truly possible after only a few therapy sessions where negative thoughts are rapidly replaced with positive suggestions.

These are the tools I use to help you gain permanent positive change

  • Cognitive Hypnotherapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Cognitive Behavoural Therapy (CBT)
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

My professional career has spanned more than 30 years in teaching, clinical practice, and in research.  This has given me a wealth of valuable experience in treating many individuals suffering from stress and anxiety.  The need to help individuals inspired me to explore the most effective treatments for performance anxiety in a PhD Doctorate in Psychology at the University of Leeds.  In fact the treatment of anxiety in music performance became the prime focus of my research.  The results gave scientific evidence for the rapid effects of Cognitive Hypnotherapy and EMDR for the debilitating condition.   I have presented my research at conferences both nationally and internationally and published several papers, and book chapters.  My book, published in 2018, documents nine of my case studies into anxiety in the workplace, in the sports arena and in music performance.  My case studies give vivid descriptions of the real lived experience of performance anxiety and how this condition is made worse through past trauma, fear of failure and low self-esteem. All of my publications can be found on my Publication Page on this website.
